WECU Jamboree - Sep 07
Wiltshire won the Open section of the annual WECU event held
in Taunton. We overcame the challenge of Devon, who on paper
fielded the strongest team in the competition. Devon finished as
runners-up, two points behind Wiltshire. Somerset and Gloucestershire
were the other two counties who made up the Open section.
The playing conditions were very agreeable, and the overall success
of the event was greatly enhanced by the venue, the modern Tacchi-
Morris Arts Centre.
It was encouraging for chess in Wiltshire that we were able to win
this event, despite the coming season being one in which Wiltshire
will not be competing in the WECU County Championship. Many of
the games were exciting and made for good watching.
