Brown Jack Chess Club
National Club (Major) 07/08
Feb 08 - Round 2 At the Brown Jack, an eventual relatively comfortable win for us was not foreseeable after Gloucestershire went 1-0 up early on in the match. The drawn game was very nearly lost to our visitors, and it took careful and patient play to secure our three wins. We now look forward to the semi-final stage in the hope that we can progress to our first National Club final. Our success in the competition so far this season is in large part due to the organisational efforts of the captain, Nicola, and Helena.

Dec 07 - Round 1 At home, a closely contested and exciting match ended with Brown Jack winning narrowly. The highlight for us was Robbie Coats winning in just 12 moves (see below). A tense finish, however, could have resulted in Brown Jack losing on board count if Dan Hall and Tim Headlong had not been able to secure the point between them that Brown Jack needed in order to avoid such a scenario. But our two most experienced team members saw us through in the end. As well as Robbie's win, it was also notable that another talented Brown Jack junior, Lewis Martin, also achieved a very good result. Nicola was significantly out-graded but still managed to compete until going astray while in time-trouble.
